NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture)

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.

National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being conducted by the Council of Architecture at national level for admission to 5 year B.Arch Degree

The question paper of NATA  has 3 sections – Mathematics, General Aptitude and Drawing section. Examinees need to take Mathematics and General Aptitude in the first 90 minutes, while the last 90 minutes are  for Drawing.

Duration of the Examination – 3 hours

Consists of 2 parts:

Part A (90 minutes) – Mathematics (MCQ) 20 Questions X 2 Marks = 40 Marks

General Aptitude (MCQ) 40 Questions X 2 Marks = 80 Marks

Part B (90 minutes) – Drawing 2 Questions X 40 Marks = 80 Marks


Algebra, Logarithms, Matrices, Trigonometry, Coordinate geometry,3-Dimensional Co-ordinate Geometry, Theory of Calculus, Application of Calculus, Permutation and combination, Statistics and Probability

General Aptitude

The aesthetic sensitivity test measures perception, imagination and observation, creativity and communication along with architectural awareness and comprises of -Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings. Visualizing different sides of three dimensional objects., Identifying commonly used materials and objects based on their textural qualities, Analytical reasoning.

Mental Ability, Imaginative comprehension and expression,Architectural awareness, Mathematical Reasoning, Sets and Relations.


Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner.Visualizing and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on surroundings. Sense of perspective drawing, Combining and composing given three dimensional elements to form a building or structural form, Creating interesting two dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms, Creating visual harmony using colours in given composition, Understanding of scale and proportions, Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on themes from day to day experiences.
